Action Research Programs

As part of its action research programmes, all the six government schools of Puthur (involving 5000 students), one of the poorest panchayats in Thrissur, was adopted. Children with specific learning, emotional and psychological problems were identified, with the help of teachers and volunteers. A 10 day camp was conducted for counseling and remedial education by our counselors, a Psychologist/ Special Educator, a Clinical Psychologist and a Psychiatrist. Further monthly follow-up camps are scheduled for the students. A door-to-door survey of one ward of the above panchayat (involving 256 households) was conducted, enlisting the support of NSS volunteers, to study the prevalence of various problems amoung students like Learning Disability, ADHD, educational backwrdness, addiction and to probe its possible causes and contributory factors from the home atmosphere and from the social and economic conditions. The data thus collected was submitted to the panchayat authorities as a project for further follow-up activities.
